Nothing could be seen on the date of visit of Galashiels station amongst large scale development works .
The station opened in 1849 as part of the Edinburgh to Hawick Branch Railway. The station was expanded when the Edinburgh to Peebles to Galashiels loop was completed in 1867 and the Selkirk branch which opened in 1856.

NMRS REFERENCE:
The Object Name Book of the Ordnance Survey (ONB) describes 'Galashiels Station (railway)' as Built with stone and having the usual railway travelling conveniences (waiting rooms etc), within it and sheds etc for goods attached'.
The station was enlarged between the dates of the OS 1st edition 6-inch map (Roxburghshire, 1854, sheet iii) and the 2nd edition of 1899 to include additional sidings and platforms after the completion of the Peebles Loop line..
