Included are snaps of Gideon, Sandy (one-time Loretto student), Lydia, William, Edgar, "a page of Gibsons 1925" and one taken at Gullane 1927, captioned "4 Gibsons, 3 Maxwells and one Sidey". Other snaps show a "picnic in Glen Afric with Maj. and Mrs Crosby, Olive and self"; "Self with Miss Gray, Motor Instructress and the car 'Rhoda' at Blairgowrie"; Balmoral clansmen marching into Braemar, the Highland Gathering there, and Charles Mackintosh in Highland dress; Mrs Brown and Rose Campbell in the garden at Rose Earn, Crieff; and a thatched cottage in Skye with a huge hay stack. Views include Fern Cottage, Braemar; looking up Chapel Brae from Gowrie Cottage, Braemar; Chapel Brae in winter; Inverchroskie, Kirkmichael 1929; Craigour, Gullane 1930; Balfour, Menmuir, near Brechin; and Profits Hotel, Dinnet. There is a postcard of "the seaplane in which Ruth Wild and I flew into Ajaccio, Corsica, February 1926. The pageant at Callander House, Falkirk 1932 is shown and there are snaps of teachers at St Andrews with a view of "the school from St Regulus Tower." On holiday in Iona in 1932 "MacNeill, the lobster-catcher, our ferryman to Ulva with his two nephews" is the subject of several snaps. Other holidays in France, Holland and Italy are shown with more snaps of the family and friends. A large section of the album is devoted to scenes in India, where Olive and George lived at 18b Alipori Road, Calcutta and 72 The Mall, Ambala 1928 is also shown. There are many good photographs of life in India at that time showing friends and servants and views of famous sites in Delhi, Agra and Lucknow. The return journey seems to have been from Rangoon and there are views of the Sphinx, the Pyramids, Aden, Stromboli and the ship "Kaiser-i Hind". | 1926 | Batch Level | |

Woodside House, 1883'. The album includes dated photographs of the Murray's house, 'Woodside' in Blairgowrie, and of 'Lintrose', their estate in Cargill, together with other buildings of the Blairgowrie/Coupar-Angus district. Also included are interior views of two houses in Edinburgh, No.4 Torphichen Street, and No.12 Howard Place - interesting because the interiors may be seen at different dates. There are also various buildings and views of London, Oxford, Dublin, Canterbury etc. The photographs date from 1883 - c.1902. Contains many engravings and lithographic prints of British and European royalty and celebrities of the day, along with cartoons and fashion plates. These include two views of the Great Fire in Parliament Square, Edinburgh, 16 November 1824; "The Passing of the Mistress of the Seas" - ships in Portsmouth Harbour on 1 February 1901, and coloured fashion plates by Henry de Hem and from The Queen magazine of 1884. "Yuletide in Canada" is the subject of an attractive print showing two children on a sledge, decorated with holly, in glowing colours. At a slightly later time snapshots and views have been pasted in. These show members of the Purvis, Moncrieff, Jackson, Wayne, Collins-Wood and Hill-Whitton families and iinclude many snapshots of young children. Other portrait photographs are of J. Buchanan Hamilton of Leny; Duncan Moncrieff; Rev E. Sugden of St Anne's church, Coupar Angus (which is also shown decorated for Christmas 1888); the Very Rev V L Briton, Dean of St Andrews 1898; George Palmer; David Murray; Arthur Blake; Willie Jardine; George, Ethel and Jean Kinloch; and Edward and family 1908. Two photographs show very small children, Frances and Darby Jackson, in pannier baskets on the back of a donkey being led, first by a uniformed nursemaid and afterwards by an old lady. | 1883 | Batch Level | |

All Other | PA 133 | Photograph Album No.133: The Mackays of Upper Gray Street, 1903-1938 Dark green hard backed album, the front decorated and titled 'POSTCARDS', the end papers of coloured jugendstijl pattern and labelled inside the back 'Marshall 6 Salisbury Place Edinr.' (listed there in 1903). 75 green pages slotted to hold at least 4 postcards each side. Most spaces are filled with unused postcards grouped topographically mainly of Scotland and the north of England. Also 3 woven silk cards of 1908 and 1911 exhibitions. A few unused cards reveal that this is probably a travel record of the MacKay family at 29 (and later 3) Upper Gray Street, Edinburgh. It also includes eight post cards in a series produced by the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition, 1903/4 on SY "Scotia" which show, 1. Capt Robertson and Mr Fitchie fixing Scotia's position; 2. Scotia sledge camp, S. Orkneys 1903; 3. Saddle Island, S. Orkneys where Capt. Weddell (Leith) landed 1823, and Scotia naturalists in 1903; 4. Ringed penguins - first arrivals at MacDougall Bay, S. Orkneys 1903; 8. Dr RNR Brown, Mr D Walton and Dr THH Pirie in Scotia's laboratory; 9. Mr RC Mossman and Scottish party at Omond House, Jessie Bay, built by the crew if the Scotia 1903/4; 11 Glacier ice-face on Pirie peninsula, Brown's Bay, S. Orkneys; 12. Scotia frozen up, wintering in Scotia Bay, March-November 1903.
