All Other PA 201 Photograph Album No 201: VALENTINE & SONS Dark green hard-backed cloth-covered album of 25 paper pages folded and slotted (slightly crookedly) to take photographs on both sides. The front cover is titled in gold 'Valentine & Sons Ltd, Photographs'. All the photographs are by Valentine but not all the pages are used and many pictures have more than one copy. All places are in Argyll or Dunbartonshire. BUT 2 coloured photographs (not J.V.) are in New Zealand. c. 1900 Batch Level
All Other PA 194 Photograph Album No 194: G.T. AT GLEN TANAR. Green hard-backed album titled 'Scrap Book' and labelled inside 'Lechertier, Barbe and Co, Artists' Colourmen, 60 Regent St. W and 7 Glasshouse St W'. 57 pages, rather tattered, spine missing. George Truefitt, architect to Sir William Brookes, must have compiled this album of professional photographs and his own ink drawings after his alterations and extensions were completed at Glen Tanar. There are several photographs of the earlier house, some captions read 'not finished' and dates on G.T's drawings range from 1875-1885. "The Queen wished to look over the house at Glen Tana [sic] and came while Sir William was away. She had her [picnic] tea where afterwards I put a stone at the back of Glen Tana." This carved stone is shown in one of Truefitt's drawings as "The Queen's seat 1874". Also shown are St Lesmo's church and its stained glass window; Donald's grave; the stables, fishing house, kennels, strong-room, barn, stabling for cart horses, Butler's pantry (with a whimsical cork-screw standing up from the gable) and his house, Piper's house, reading room, ballroom, Lady Brooke's sitting room, the lamps at the gates and many other views. Truefitt went on to work for Sir William's son-in-law, the Marquis of Huntly, at Aboyne Castle, and the last few pages have photographs showing different stages of the castle's front, including the symmetrical castellated earlier front, the lodge designed by Truefitt, and the Marquis and Marchioness with their carriage and groom. c. 1875 Batch Level

Amateur snapshots, mostly abroad; only one third filled and with three loose pages titled "Miss Turnbull, Broomieknowe Cottage, Lasswade - Ref. No. 04536." 1931. cf PA21, PA64, PA90 and PAs114, 115, 116, 125, 126 and 127. Includes photographs taken on holiday in Strasbourg, Las Palmas, Ascension and Cape Town. Shown in the photographs are Winifred, May and Marjorie Currey; Frances and Louise Vereker; Mrs Warton by the Zambesi; Shirley Warren; Daisy and Harold Christian with Mrs Warton; Maudie, Bishop and Marybeth Haynes; buildings at Longholm with Rob, Charlie, Jessie, Eulalia and Dick, and a children's party aboard MV "Durban Castle". Later snaps show interior and garden views of Broomieknowe Cottage, Lasswade, June 1939; James and Margaret Fisher; Isa and Nessie McLellan; the Misses Edes, Lasswade and a toddler, Christian Turnbull, May 1939. 1931 Batch Level

Grey linen-look paper covered album of 19 brown card pages bound with faded green cord, titled "Snap Album" on front and inscribed inside the front cover "D Graham Fraser, Boddenville, Corstorphine". Amateur snapshots of golf tournament at St Andrews ,the players named, including E Esmond, CJH Tolley, RB Kyle, FKH Weaver, RH Wethered, ECP Boyd, RH de Montmorency, VA Pollock, John Key, E Martin Smith, playing for the Jubilee Vase in September 1921, and Ian W Shewan, HE Taylor, JM Playfair, JH Weaver playing in the Calcutta Cup final; several views of Edinburgh Zoo showing animals, and uncaptioned pictures of people with little architectural background presumably in Edinburgh, probably Corstorphine. 1921 Batch Level
All Other PA 159 Photograph Album No 159: WALLACE, SCOTT & CO LTD, CATHCART Black leather album monogrammed on the front in gold "W S & Co.Ltd." with gold lining on front, spine and back, which is supported on four metal studs. The 56 card pages are gilt-edged and hinged with cloth reinforcement, and the end papers are mottled in three colours. The album is in a purpose-made box covered with faded blue cloth, felt-lined. All extremely high quality. 48 of the pages are used for photographs and inscriptions surrounded by fine ink borders, all the views professionally captioned. They show the new factory on the Cart Water built by John Burnet Son & Dick for the philanthropic firm of Wallace, Scott & Co in two stages between 1913 and 1922, illustrating all the facilities both exterior and interior as well as the various processes of the Tailoring Institute. A full list of contractors is given and a site plan, and the pages are interspersed with texts prominently placed in the work rooms. At the end is a water-colour by Harry Hubbard of the building during construction surrounded by "Facts regarding Construction etc". 1913 Batch Level
All Other PA 125 Photograph Album No 125: EMMA F TURNBULL 1876, cf PAs 21, 64, 85, 90, 114, 115, 116, 126 and 127. Stiff-backed album with thick brown leather cover decorated front and back with concentric rectangles in brown and gold, EK monogram on front. Light blue watered silk effect end papers, 18 thick card pages each with four windows on each side and separated by thick plain card pages, all gilt-edged. Two brass clasps (one part missing). Inscribed 'Emma F Turnbull 1876', this album contains studio and group portraits, many of people in the other Turnbull albums, some of them in India. It begins with a portrait photograph of Lord Napier and Ettrick, Governor of Madras, 1866-72 and contains photographs of many members of the Turnbull, Kindersley, Currie, Shaw, Christian, Loring and Jameson families some taken in Madras. Also shown are Major Tredway Clarke; Vyvan Howard Owen Christian 1871; Dr and Mrs Alfred Lewer; Commander Robert Burton RN, Jane P Ewan, Emily, Herbert and Edith Burton, (Mrs Smart); Agnes Maurice; Dr Cullen; Harry Stephenson; Mary Hansard, November 1907; Captain Henry Wasey; Mrs Holland and Mrs Christian, Malta. Group photographs show Mr Kerrick, General Moore, Sir DM Wallace, Miss Moxon, Captain Hamilton, Grant, Sir Herbert and Lady Macpherson, Mr and Lady Grant Duff, Lord and Lady Dufferin; EH and ST Turnbull with Collapa and Baboo; Willie Turnbull, Anna Mills, "Campbell the guide", Mrs Mills, Robert MacGowan, Mrs S Turnbull, Mr J Mills and Eliza Turnbull at Jersey; and a troop of mounted soldiers including Messrs Fortune, Boyson, Turnbull and Borrowdale. c. 1876 Batch Level
