Scope and Content The B9169 is in the foreground. Beyond the rough ground, crop marks revealed the arcs of three concentric ditches, the site of Gilchrist Promontory Fort, probably Bronze age, now entered in the Atlas of Hillforts. This fort was excavated by the North of Scotland Archaeological Society in 2018. There are also references to linear features in the field, possible prehistoric pit enclosures. At the top is Gilchrist (or Kilchrist) old Church, graveyard and Mausoleum. The Church, originally a small Medieval chapel, became a 19c burial mausoleum of the MacKenzies of Ord. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
