(NR 857 885) Leitch (1904) refers to a large stone - Celtic - against the dairy wall, and Argyll County Council (1914) add that there is a smaller one opposite and another at the entrance to the garden by bridge. There is a stone, 5'8" x 3'8" just SW of the stable buildings at Oakfield (Auchindarroch); a stone gatepost on S of nearby avenue gate may be the second stone referred to. The third has not been located (Campbell and Sandeman 1964).

NR 8573 8852: The standing stone by the building is as described; there is no reason to believe that it is not prehistoric.
No other similar stones were located in the area.

NR 8572 8852. A standing stone as described in the previous information. It is free-standing and is adjacent to the dairy wall.
At NR 8559 8855 are two stones, the largest of which is 1.1m high with an average width of 0.4m, while the other is 0.4m high by 0.3m. They are situated either side of an old path that leads to a footbridge about 8.0m to their west. This bridge, although still standing, has been replaced by a modern one nearby. The position of these stones, presumably marking a footpath, suggests that they are not prehistoric. The present owner (Mr Kenneth, Oakfield, Lochgilphead) who has lived at Oakfield since 1922, has no knowledge of any other stones in the grounds.

Field Visit (May 1983)
Situated immediately W of the former stable-block of Oakfield, this stone is aligned WNW and ESE and measures 1.67m in height and 1.0m by 0.23m at the base; it rises with outward flaring sides to a top which falls from the ESE to WNW and has a maximum breadth of 1.7m (Campbell and Sandeman 1964).
(There were no signs of any other stones in the area on the date of visit, although two others are mentioned in unpublished material gathered in preparation for the Argyll County Council List.)
