Archaeology Notes

NN91SE 27 95515 12936

(Location cited as NN 955 129). Glenruthven Mills, Auchterarder. Built 1877. A most interesting weaving factory, consisting of a block of single-storey weaving sheds, a two-storey preparation room, and a single-storey office block, all rubble-built. The looms are mainly Anderston Foundry narrow looms, belt-driven by a late 19th century horizontal, tandem-compound, slide-valve engine. The boiler is of the Cornish type, made in 1949 by Penman and Co, Glasgow. Ancillary equipment includes an old wooden vertical-drum, hand-warping machine. Open to the public.
