Standing Building Recording (4 May 2016 - 10 June 2016)
The Elder Memorial Chapel dates to c.1913 and was designed by Sir John James Burnet. It is a Group Category B Listed building with the Outpatients and Dispensary building. The Chapel is accessed at first floor level via an enclosed bridge link connected to the G Block. The lower half of the chapel’s exterior is largely obscured by adjacent infill buildings. The south-facing elevation (has five buttresses between which are six round-headed stained-glass windows. A buttress that breaks the eaves has a small conical turret. The roof is slate with crow-stepped gables. The west-facing elevation is ashlar built with large roundheaded windows at the ground floor. At first floor level is a pair or round headed windows. The east-facing elevation is faced with white ceramic tiles with ashlar dressings on a window and quoins. The north side of the chapel cannot be seen, as it is hidden by the Gardiner Institute of Medicine.
The chapel has a rectangular plan with an Arts and Crafts interior. The chancel roof is exposed and comprises a hammer beam arrangement supported on stone corbels. The walls were of plain stone and lined with a light coloured panelling to just above dado height. Situated at the east end was the stone altar embellished with carved columns. The stone and wooden pulpit was also embellished with carved panels. The ceiling above the altar is panelled with a dental cornice. The chancel arch is roll moulded. On the north side is a chancel aisle, much of which is occupied by the church organ. The rest of the aisle is lit by stained glass windows. The floor is wooden herringbone.

Standing Building Recording (1 November 2017 - 3 November 2017)
NS 564 666 As part of a wider redevelopment scheme at the former Western Infirmary a detailed measured survey was made, 1–3 November 2017, of a linking corridor between the Elder Memorial Chapel and the former Western Infirmary, which is scheduled for demolition. The work aimed to provide survey drawings which would facilitate the rebuilding of
the corridor at a later date. The survey produced a series of internal and external elevation drawings to which numbers were added identifying each element of the structure.
