(NR 7771 7800) Standing Stone (NAT)

OS 6" map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1924)

This standing stone measures 6'10" x 2'6" - 2'8" x 11" 1'6", axis NW. Tradition of 'erection' by a 19th century proprietor's son on the eve of his departure for India.

M Campbell and M Sandeman 1964.

A more likely version says he whitewashed it during a farewell party. A standing stone as described. The 19th century origin could not be confirmed, but there is no reason to suppose that it is not prehistoric. Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Visited by OS (IA) 20 June 1973.

NR 7772 7801. No change to the previous reports.

Surveyed at 1/10,000.

Visited by OS (BS) 27 January 1977.
