Aerial view of Gordon Castle with part of Fochabers behind, Moray, looking S.

SC 1970177

Description Aerial view of Gordon Castle with part of Fochabers behind, Moray, looking S.

Date 13/6/1976

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1970177

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content This view looks S down an avenue of trees, described as the site of the former medieval burgh at Belliehill on Canmore, though this site is more convincingly placed within the area of the walled garden created circa 1800 after the town of Fochabers was moved to its present location - see Aberdeen Council's HER NJ35NW0156. The avenue is aligned on the medieval castle and later country house of Gordon Castle. The walled garden for the castle and part of Fochabers can be seen behind. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
