(NC 9682 1881) Cairn (NR)

OS 6" map, (1964)

On a slight eminence beside the road, on the W bank of the Torrish Burn, is a large round cairn.

RCAHMS 1911.

The cairn is set on a spur and overlooks the S. It is about 19.5m NW-SE by 18.5m and has been extensively robbed out of the W quarter; a kerb of slabs on edge is well-defined in the E arc but less so or destroyed elsewhere; the body of the cairn is of bare stone and stands to approximately 1.5m high; there is no cist or chamber to be seen. A stone-free, heather-covered verge inside the kerb in the E, to a width of 2.0m, strongly suggests a berm.

Visited by OS (W D J) 13 May 1960 and (J M) 29 April 1976
