Field Visit (31 January 1977)

NC82NE 33 8530 2711 and 8527 2714 See also NC82NE 5.

At NC 8530 2711 adjacent to a small burn and close to the settlement NC82NE 5, is a burnt mound rather irregular in shape. It measures 6.5m E-W x 5.5m x 1.0m. A number of friable stones were seen lying in a bed of black earth on the mound's surface.

Field Visit (5 May 1991)

There are two burnt mounds on the E side of an unnamed tributary to the Abhainn na Frithe.

A. NC 8530 2711. This circular burnt mound measures 6.2m in diameter and 0.8m in height. There may be some revetting on the W side of the mound. Friable stones and charcoal set in a matrix of black soil are visible in a scrape on top of the mound.

B. NC 8527 2714. This U-shaped burnt mound measures 9m from N to S by 7.3m transversely and 1m in height. It opens on the E and has a well-defined central hollow.
