Activities

Field Visit (29 May 1911)

Hut Circles, etc., Lingdowie Burn

[NX16NE 11] On the slope of the hillside, about 120 yards to the E. of the Lingdowie Burn, and ½ m. or thereby SW. of where it passes beneath the road, is a large oval enclosure measuring interiorly 56' x 33', and lying with its longest axis E. and W. In the interior are indications of divisional walls, but too indefinite to plan. The thickness of the enclosing wall is about 5' 6"; the position of the entrance is indeterminate.

[NX16NE 12] Some 20' to the S. are the remains of what appears to have been a hut circle with an interior diameter of about 15'. The wall is much ruined; large boulders have been used in its construction. Higher up the hill to the westward are the remains of old enclosing walls.

O.S.M., WIGTOWN, xii. NE. (unnoted).

Visited 29th May 1911.
