NT12NE 4.02 151 277
NT 152 276. The foundations of several rectangular stone buildings extend over a distance of 200yds along the gently sloping ground at the foot of Lairdside Knowe, between the Stanhope Burn and Stone Grain Hope. The most distinct (1) measures 16ft by 10ft within a wall about 3ft 6in in thickness; the others vary in size from 20ft by 10ft to 10ft by 4ft within walls which now appear only as bands of rubble about 4ft in thickness. Two of the foundations (2,3) partly overlie a low stony bank enclosing a circular area some 22ft in diameter (4) which may be a single house of the kind associated with the early field systems at Glenrath Hope. An enclosure of irregular shape (5), measureing 160ft by 100ft within the last vestiges of a wall, lies at the southern limit of the group. The date and purpose of these remains are unknown. The platform A forms part of the unenclosed platform settlement described under NT12NE 1.

RCAHMS 1967, visited 1960
NT 1522 2766. The fragmented remains of old banks and stone building foundations are as described. The circular bank (4) is probably a contemporary enclosure. It is doubtful if this is an early field-system and is more likely to be either a late or post-Medieval farmstead or a group of summer shielings.

Field Visit (21 August 1989)
Within the field-system that extends along the foot of the W flank of Lairdside Knowe there are several shieling-huts.
(formerly NT12NW 4.02.01)
A group of at least four rectangular huts and a circular enclosure are situated around the stone stell at the foot of Lairside Knowe. What may be a kiln lies about 20m to the E (NT 1522 2770); two more buildings lie a further 40m SE (NT 1526 2766), but a third depicted in the Peeblesshire Inventory (RCAHMS 1967) is no more than a mound of stones.
(formerly NT12NW 4.02.02)
This shieling-hut is situated at NT 1504 2795, in an angle between the Stone Grain Hope Burn and the scarp that forms the S side of the gully that it meanders through. The hut was obscured by dense bracken at the date of visit but may have two compartments.
Visited by RCAHMS (SPH) 21 August 1989.
