Within the field-system that extends along the foot of the W flank of Lairdside Knowe there are several shieling-huts.

(formerly NT12NW 4.02.01)

A group of at least four rectangular huts and a circular enclosure are situated around the stone stell at the foot of Lairside Knowe. What may be a kiln lies about 20m to the E (NT 1522 2770); two more buildings lie a further 40m SE (NT 1526 2766), but a third depicted in the Peeblesshire Inventory (RCAHMS 1967) is no more than a mound of stones.

(formerly NT12NW 4.02.02)

This shieling-hut is situated at NT 1504 2795, in an angle between the Stone Grain Hope Burn and the scarp that forms the S side of the gully that it meanders through. The hut was obscured by dense bracken at the date of visit but may have two compartments.

Visited by RCAHMS (SPH) 21 August 1989.
