The newly formed Afforestable Land Survey team of RCAHMS carried out an archaeological field survey of the area around Stanhope and the valley of the Stanhope Burn in July and December 1989. The survey area of 19 square kilometres covered parts of OS 5km map sheets NT12NW/NE and NT13SW. More than 50 entries were added to the National Monuments Record of Scotland and these are also available as a printed manuscript (MS 835/1). Survey data was plotted from various sources on three 1:10,560 overlays, designed to be used in conjunction with the OS Record Sheets for the area. A summary of the results written by Mr S P Halliday can be under site record NT12NW 55 (Canmore ID 68663).
