Activities

Field Visit (12 July 1971)

NT05SW 20 0059 5015.

This enclosure lies within a "group of small cairns" (NT05SW 14) and it is suggested (RCAHMS) that it may be an enclosed cremation cemetery, by analogy with comparable sites in Dumfriesshire.

Surveyed at 1:2500 (visited by OS (DWR) 12 July 1971). (Unnamed detail shown on OS 25" 1973.)

Field Visit (September 1976)

NT 005 501. In a shallow waterlogged hollow there is a circular stony bank, 2.5m thick and 0.4m high, enclosing an area 7m in diameter. On the W there is an entrance 1.5m wide, part of the N side of which is formed by a slab measuring 0.9m by 0.5m; another slab has fallen inwards and lies close to the outer edge of the entrance. For possible analogies see RCAHMS 1978, p.10.

RCAHMS 1978, visited September 1976

Field Visit (12 December 1994)

NT05SW 20 0059 5015.

This site remains as previously described and there is no change to the existing description.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS/IF) 12 December 1994.

Management (2005)

Scheduled as Wester Yardhouses, hut-circle.

Information from Historic Scotland, scheduling document dated 22 February 2005.
