Chapel of St Mary & St Michael (Site): This chapel served as a parish church after the abandonment of Inchcailleach in 1621 until a new church was built about 1764. Nothing can now be seen on the site except some upright stone blocks, which seem to demarcate the former extent of the burying ground.

The stone blocks referred to above demarcate an area 8.6m E-W by 6.3m N-S, which appears to be the extent of the chapel and not the graveyard as suggested.

Repair of Church and Quire.

The Heritors have obtained estimates and John Smith has been appointed overseer. Gorthie reminds the Duke of Montrose that the Quire is no part of the Church but is the burial place of the Lairds of Buchanan. This inside of the Church is to be lathed and plastered as well as the staircase and the family seat which must be repaired and painted.

The pavement of the Church is to be relaid to cover the whole floor. Pews are numbered. The square pews to have doors but the single ones are to be without.

New Belfry for the Church of Buchanan.

A Belfry of iron is to be placed where the present one is, only a little lower, according to the drawing. The pillars are to be of cast iron held together with bars of the same let into the Pillars at the top and made quite secure. The top of the Belfry may be made of best Mensel timber covered with lead or copper; or may be of cast iron without wood.
