(NS 4544 8894) Chapel (NR) (Site of) Burial Ground (NR)

OS 6" map, Dunbartonshire, 2nd ed., (1923)

Chapel of St Mary & St Michael (Site): This chapel served as a parish church after the abandonment of Inchcailleach in 1621 until a new church was built about 1764. Nothing can now be seen on the site except some upright stone blocks, which seem to demarcate the former extent of the burying ground.

RCAHMS 1963; W H MacLeod 1901; J G Smith 1896.

The stone blocks referred to above demarcate an area 8.6m E-W by 6.3m N-S, which appears to be the extent of the chapel and not the graveyard as suggested.

Visited by OS (R D) 10 March 1965.
