NS 012 462. E of the Sannox to Lochranza road, a short distance NE of a lay-by at BM 164.1, are a number of rock outcrops. On one of the highest of these, which are tilted at a shallow angle facing west, are a number of cup-marks. They are very shallow except for one or two deep cups. As the rock is exposed to wind and rain this could account for the weathered nature of the carvings; but the deeper cups do not look natural.
Information contained in letters from J B McVicar, 638 Clarkston Road, Glasgow to OS, 4 April 1978.
NS 0125 4615. The 'cup-marks' (about half a dozen) on the upper face of a large outcrop of soft sandstone, would appear to be formed by natural causes, and not artificially cut. Similar markings appear vaguely on adjacent outcrops.
Visited by OS (J D) 25 April 1978.
