(NR 9006 3127) A stone circle, indicated by a ring of dots similar to those near Moss Farm is marked but not named on OS 6" map, 1st ed.,
1864.
Information from OS (SW) 9 September 1952.
Desk Based Assessment (30 March 1973)
The name 'Big Ruin', unpublished on 1st edition sheet 248/11 trace 6 probably applies to this un-named feature. What it is or was is unknown to the oldest inhabitant. It is situated on the side of a gentle slope and is covered with a coating of grass while all the surrounding parts are covered with heather. It appears to have been surrounded by a dyke of earth, which has entirely disappeared and is now level with the surrounding area. It is an irregular oval in shape. Evidently not an antiquity, it probably was a large sheep ree or shelter.

Field Visit (6 October 1977)
The indicated site falls in an area of undulating moorland morass, and the only noticeable feature here is an approximate 10.0m length of an old field bank, composed of peat and protruding set stones, which fades into the marsh. This is an unlikely vantage for a stone circle, or similar antiquity.
The vague feature described in the Name Book could not be traced.
Visited by OS (J R L) 6 October 1977.
