('A': NR 9047 2616 - 'B': NR 9047 2618) Hut Circles (NR)

OS 6" map, (1924)

Hut circle 'A' is 32ft in diameter, with no visible entrance, 'B' is 48 1/2ft in diameter, with an entrance to SE, the portals extending beyond the circle. 'B' was partly dug, but nothing was obtained. There were a quantity of stones at its N side that may have been remains of an interior hut, but they were too confused to enable a satisfactory conclusion to be drawn.

J A Balfour 1910.

'A' Hut circle; some stones are visible in bank. 'B' Hut circle; no visible stone but some detected by probing. Slight depressions visible at the N and S ends; possibly entrances. Overall dimensions A, 8.0m diameter, B 13.0m diameter.

Information from MS DoE Arran Field Survey, 1976 (see archive)

A: NR 9047 2615 B: NR 9047 2617 Two hut circles on level moorland approximately 15.0m apart and connected by a linear bank.

'A' comprises a stone and peat bank up to 3.0m wide and 0.8m high, enclosing a level featureless interior 5.5m in overall diameter. There is the suggestion of an entrance, 1.0m wide, in the S side.

'B' comprises a stone and peat bank up to 4.0m wide and 0.8m high, enclosing a slightly dished featureless interior measuring 10.0m N-S by 9.0m E-W. A 1.0m entrance on the S side has a possible portal or annexe arrangement of small set stones, confused by a scatter of loose material. Its exact shape or purpose cannot be determined.

Both hut circles are connected on their eastern arcs by a peat bank, some 20.0m long, 2.0m wide and 0.4m high.
