Archaeology Notes

NR35SW 8 3193 5467.

At NR 3193 5467, on a rise in open moorland, is a hut circle. It remains as a heather-covered circular platform, 13.0m across and 0.4m high, rimmed with a ragged wall most pronounced at 1.0m broad by 0.1m high; no stone is visible in the wall. An entrance is no longer discernible. A fence crosses the south arc of the hut.

Surveyed at 1:10 000.

Visited by OS (JM) 13 July 1979.

This large hut-circle is situated 200m N of Duich in level moorland on the N side of the Duich River. Its wall, which

encloses a slightly dished interior measuring 9m by 9.5m has been reduced to a peat-covered bank 0.5m high; the bank has an average thickness of 2.5m, increasing to 3m on each side of the entrance gap, 3m wide, situated on the SE. A modern fence crosses the S arc.

Visited June 1980
