Site previously included in NL58SE 22

This roundhouse, which is overlain by a building, is situated in the middle of a small field on the S side of the burn that runs through the floor of Skipisdale. The roundhouse measures 9.5m in diameter over a wall 0.8m in thickness and 1.2m in height on the W. The SE side of roundhouse is raised up and stands up to 1.2m in height. The interior is choked with stones and large blocks, and the later building overlies its E half. Subrectangular on plan, the building measures 4.8m in length by 3m in breadth over walls up to 0.5m in height. An enclosure attached to the E end measures 4m by 2.6m transversely overall. The roundhouse appears to overlie an earlier mound, at the SE edge of which at least four edge-set boulders can be seen forming a kerb. This site was previously investigated by Branigan and Foster (2000, MY346).
