Meadowside Shipbuilding Yard at 85 Castlebank Street was founded c. 1845 by Tod & MacGregor. The drydock, measuring 474 foot long, 61 foot wide and 18 foot deep was the oldest surviving part, being built 1857-8 for £120,000. The drydock was demolished in 1968 and filled in.
The 14 bay red brick and sandstone office block was built in 1885 for D & W Henderson. This two storey structure is built in the French Renaisaance style being topped by a central tower.

Desk Based Assessment (27 June 2016)
Nothing is now visible in an area of waste ground of the shipbuilding yard depicted here on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch Map (Lanarkshire 1865, Sheet VI). At that time it comprised a slipway running SE into the confluence of the River Clyde and the River Kelvin, with ranges of buildings to the NE, N and NW. The 2nd edition of the 25-inch map shows that the yard, at that time annotated ‘Meadowside Shipbuilding Yard’, had seen further development with the range on the N being extended to the NW and the original NW range removed. (Lanarkshire 1896, Sheet 006.09).
