Archaeology Notes

NH87SW 7 8445 7352.

(NH 8445 7352) Fifty metres to the SE of the fort (NH87SW 6) is a natural hillock, lower than the fort, on which are 'easily seen' artitificial depressions; two are less pronounced than on the fort (where one was 0.5m deep) and the third is vistigial. A rough inspection revealed no signs of earthworks nor other artificial alteration.

Information from J Howdle to OS 29 August 1961; Visible on RAF air photographs CPE/Scot/UK/223: 4149-50: flown 27 June 1947.

This hillock was overgrown with bracken at the time of visit, but the depressions appear to be small quarries and not antiquities. According to Mr Budge (Mr D Budge, Easter Rarichie) hut circles occur on similar hillocks at NH 8425 7408 and NH 8471 7378 but these are also overgrown and nothing could be found.

Visited by OS (A A) 18 September 1972.
