Desk Based Assessment (19 December 2017)

The engines of the PS ‘Clyde’, a Clyde Navigation Trust tug built in 1851 by A and J Inglis, are located on the south bank of the River Clyde 40m downstream from the Renfrew Ferry (NS56NW 93). They are preserved on a fenced stone pedestal as a memorial to their designer Andrew Brown, who later became Provost of Renfrew. They are believed to be the first disconnecting paddle engines made.

Information from HES Survey and Recording (AMcC) 19 December 2017.
