'St Mary's Chapel (site of)...No remains of this chapel at present exist, but its site is carefully preserved from the plough. It is said to have been dedicated to the Virgin; and though built before the Reformation, the exact date cannot be obtained. About 25 years ago the proprietor made excavations, and disclosed the foundations of the building, besides turning up a quantity of human bones.'

Name Book 1868.

On Chapelton the foundations of a chapel were visible until 1897.

ISSFC 1898.

The site of the chapel is on a low knoll and is now under the plough; no traces exist.

Visited by OS (E G C) 25 April 1962.
