Jura, Distillery, Distillery Cottages.

SRO:

Land for proposed Distillery Cottages.

Agreement by Alexander McIsaac to give up land for a site for the cottages.

1892 GD 64/1/354.

(Undated) information in NMRS.

Established in 1810, Jura Distillery came into the hands of Messrs. James Ferguson and Sons in the year 1875. The new owners immediately set about a restoration costing #25,000.

The No.1 Maltings was a granite structure which stood some 3 storeys in height. At it's North end stood a Kiln measuring 48 feet square. The gearing of the Mash-tun was driven by a water-wheel.

The Whisky produced was pure Highland Malt. The annual output in 1884-85 was 60,339 gallons, 1885-86 65,000 gallons, but the works, at that time, were capable of making 180,000 gallons.
