Architecture Notes

ARCHITECT: Alexander Ross (I.A. 31 July 1868) Improvements

REFERENCE: SCOTTISH RECORD OFFICE

Site for Fortrose Academy.

Letters from Alexander Wood, James Smith and Thomas Gilean.

Plan to use the Old Castle is turned down. To repair it would be difficult and expensive.

Baillie Mackenzie's 'subjects' in Fortrose are for sale and as they are new, well built and suitably situated, it is decided to purchase them for ?335. They will be used for the Rector's House, a Library, and a school and so form a nucleus for future building.
