Activities

Field Visit (31 August 2023)

HY 65660 28480 Visited during fieldwork by SCAPE. The Whitehall Pier, built in 1833, is the main pier now used by the ferry service to Stronsay. The pier was later raised and extended in 1880, extended again in the early 1900s, and underwent a final extension and fitted with the ferry roll on, roll off facility in 1989-1990. The jib on the east pier is no longer in place. The West Pier was built in 1910, specifically for the herring industry and now used primarily for fishing boats.
