Scope and Content New Pier, Whitehall, Stronsay, Orkney This was the pier through the trade of Stronsay was conducted until roll-on roll-off ferries were introduced in the 1980s. It is a long structure, with a masonry landward end and concrete head. This view shows the pier from the MV Orcadia, at that time the vessel serving the north isles of Orkney. Note the flatness of the island. There were cattle penned at the pierhead awaiting shipment. Stronsay is now served by a vehicular ferry. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
