(A: NS 7247 2423; B: NS 7242 2422) Cairns (NR)

OS 6" map (1958)

Two cairns occupy conspicuous positions on the summit of Cairn Table (592.5m OD).

The E cairn (A) measures 16m in diameter and 3.5m in height; it seems to be relatively undisturbed. A bronze armlet and ring, found together under a boulder on its E margin, were donated to the NMAS in 1933 (Acc Nos: FA 90, 91). Though thought to be of Early Bronze date, an Iron Age date has recently been suggested for them (M Macgregor 1976).

Cairn 'B', 30m WSW of 'A', has been heavily robbed to provide material for a modern memorial cairn near by, and now measures about 12m in diameter and 1m in height. An OS triangulation station has been erected on it.

(RCAHMS 1978, visited 1971; Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1934; J M Coles 1971)

These two cairns were in a similar condition when visited in 1954.
