(NO 3848 5625) Standing Stone (NR)
OS 6" map, Forfarshire and Angus, 2nd ed., (1927)
A standing stone, 1.6m high by 0.7m by 0.8m, tapering to a pointed top and leaning northwards. It is unsculptured although Crawford (1949) mentions 'artificial pockmarks about 1" apart' on the west face. These appear to be due to weathering. Warden (1880-5) says this stone was surrounded by a stone circle more than 18m in diameter and Reid (1909) notes that the positions of at least six stones can be traced to the south of the remaining stone, when the field is in grass; but none was noted during field investigations. Crawford notes that the stone stands on a mound but this is not so.
