As part of the Clyde-built project, an initial assessment of the known records for shipping losses was undertaken within the Clyde River and Estuary .

A number of sources were consulted. Characterising Scotland’s Marine Archaeological Resource database (Wessex Archaeology 2012); Canmore (RCAHMS NMR database obtained in November 2014); The UKHO Wrecks and Obstructions Database (obtained via MarineFIND in

November 2014, with most recent data download from UKHO in November 2014) and Wrecks reported in Clyde Shipwrecks and Argyll Shipwrecks (Moir and Crawford 2003 and 2004).
