Scope and Content Round Square, Aden House, Aberdeenshire, from east From the 1750s to 1937 the Russell family built up the estate of Aden to a 4,000 hectare mix of private policies, farmland and woodland. Since 1980, 92 hectares of the estate has been managed by the local council as a country park and the stables, which date from 1800, have been renovated and turned into a museum of agriculture. The east wing of the round square is seen here, in 1975-6, in danger of collapse and very overgrown. Note the bellcote to the right of the picture. There are two small rooms in the end of the curved block which were the home of the last horseman and his family. These rooms have been re-furnished as they were in the 1930s. Near to the house and stables is an artificial lake, an ice-house and a mineral well. There are more conifers than there would have been in the 19th century. The site now hosts a number of events throughout the year such as vintage tractor rallies. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
