Scope and Content General view of Inveraray Parish Church, Inveraray, Argyll and Bute The site for Inveraray's parish church was selected as early as 1747, although it was not erected until 1795-1802. Robert Mylne (1733-1814), the architect, designed the double-fronted church and it was built for a total cost of £1,685. This harled and whitewashed side wall has two tall round-headed windows with exposed dressings. There is a column at either end. Originally, there was a steeple 31m in height above ground level, but it was removed in 1941 and never re-erected. The church, built on the highest point of Inveraray, was designed to accommodate separate Gaelic- and English-speaking congregations under one roof. It is a double-fronted building with two identical façades. In 1930 the congregations were united. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
