Scope and Content Survey photographs and drawings by Scottish National Buildings Record staff, student draughtsmen and Ministry of Work photographers; minutes and correspondence files. The collection comprise more than 20,000 items of buildings and sites across Scotland recorded between 1941 and 1966. This collection is currently being digitised and updated.
Archive History Transferred from the Scottish National Buildings Record to the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) when the two organisations merged in 1966.

Access Conditions There are no restrictions upon access, except where necessary for conservation reasons.
Administrative History The Scottish National Buildings Record (SNBR) was established in 1941 with the remit to make an emergency record of Scotland's historic architecture, and this work continued after the war when many buildings were threatened by demolition or alterations. The SNBR was taken over by the Ministry of Works in 1954, and in 1966 it transferred to RCAHMS to form the National Monuments Record of Scotland. 23 July 2009 (Iain Fraser)
