Scope and Content Tarbat House, near Milton of Kildary, Highland Tarbat House was built in 1787 to plans drawn up by James McLeran and incorporated masonry from an earlier house on the site. Much of the interior has now been lost. The exterior was designed in a simple classical style. Mathematically defined architectural styles or Orders used by the Ancient Greeks and Romans during the Classical period were rediscovered by architects during the Renaissance and remained popular until the 20th century, Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
