Scope and Content Aerial view of Green Island fort, Milton Loch, Dumfries and Galloway The earthworks at Green Island occupy a tongue of land projecting into Milton Loch. Their exact purpose and dating are uncertain. These unusual boat-shaped earthworks consist of an earthen rampart and a shallow external ditch. On either side of the causewayed entrance, which is in the west (top), the rampart is markedly more massive and the ditch has squared corners. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
