Scope and Content View of Old Schoolhouse, No 26 Church Street, Inverkeithing, Fife Inverkeithing was created a royal burgh in 1165, and its harbour on the Forth was well suited for trade. Many industries have come and gone here, including an ironworks, distillery, shipbuilding, shipbreaking, and papermaking. This is the former schoolhouse in Church Street. Built in 1775, it is two-storeyed with two 17th-century pediments inserted on either side of the central first-floor window. Altered in 1824 and 1907, it is no longer associated with any school. On the ground floor, the central doorway is flanked by projecting bay windows under a slated-roofed canopy. The doorway is surrounded by Doric pilasters with a plain cornice above.
