Plan showing the medieval estate centre at Blacklaw, Dumfries and Galloway Within a forestry clearing some 550m north of Longbedholm steading are the remains of an extensive late medieval estate centre. The ruins of a 16th-century tower-house lie at the heart of this extensive estate centre. Within and around the large stone-walled enclosure are footings of stone-walled buildings, most notably a kiln-barn situated 20m west of the tower-house. The lands of 'Blaclau' are first recorded around 1315 in a grant made by the king, Robert Bruce. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
