Scope and Content Settlement at Gibb's Hill, Dumfries and Galloway Situated on the summit of Gibb's Hill and overlooking the valley of the Logan Water, there are the well-preserved remains of this multi-period settlement. Around the summit are remains of roundhouses as well as traces of prehistoric rig cultivation. Snow highlights the settlement site in this aerial view. Five different phases of building have been identified here, each overlying previous phases. Palisades were employed throughout the Bronze Age to defend small homesteads and settlements. Typically, wooden posts were set in narrow bedding trenches and secured with stones. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
