Scope and Content Drawing of underside (showing transverse ribs) of Duchess Bridge, Langholm, Dumfriesshire Duchess Bridge was built in 1813 by William Keir junior and is the oldest surviving cast-iron bridge in Scotland. The bridge is made up of two parallel cast iron arches, or arch-ribs. These are braced by several transverse ribs, which connect arch-ribs to each other. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
