Scope and Content Redrawn for publication from DC 32346. Unattributed, [1996]. Plan of Tom's Knowe, Dumfries and Galloway Roughly aligned on opposing sides of the River White Esk are two long mounds, known as Tom's Knowe and Lamb's Knowe. Originally the mounds formed the terminals of a bank barrow, a Neolithic ceremonial monument some 2 km long which once spanned the valley. Running down the northern slope of Tom's Knowe, the earthwork comprises a central bank or 'tail' flanked by shallow ditches up to 3.5 broad, visible for 250m. Near the crest of Tom's Knowe the bank ends in a large roughly circular mound, some 10m across. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
