Scope and Content A huge expanse of flat lawn lies before a large castellated stone building with square towersat the corners, battlements round the tops of the walls and a large arched porte-cochere entrance. The castle has arched windows, and soil pipes running down the walls. There is an iron stairway (a fire escape) beside one of the highest towers. A small white dog is running across the lawn in the foreground. Lennox Castle is a superb baronial pile built in 1837-41 and designed by David Hamilton of Glasgow for John Kincaid-Lennox whose claim to the earldom of Lennox was rejected. It was converted into a hospital in the 20th century.
