Scope and Content This collection compiles the records of the Scottish Cultural Resources Access Network (SCRAN), an educational resources website. SCRAN was conceived in 1995 and its founding partners were The National Museums Scotland, The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS), the former Scottish Museums Council, now Museums Galleries Scotland and, by invitation, the Scottish Consultative Council on the Curriculum. In 2008 SCRAN became part of remit of RCAHMS, and in 2015 SCRAN was incorporated into Historic Environment Scotland (HES). As part of a project beginning in 2024, the SCRAN collection was accessioned into the main HES archive collection. This collection contains records of the social and cultural history of Scotland (and beyond) and was contributed to by a wide range of organisations and individuals. The ethos of SCRAN was to encourage contributions from a variety of places and people to create a diverse and united educational resource for use, primarily, in schools and other educational institutions. This has resulted in the collection containing a plethora of resources covering multitude of themes and time periods.
