Scope and Content A reading room with a bow window and a decorated plasterwork ceiling. Bookcases line the walls and there are desks and reading tables, lamps and comfortable chairs. A painting hangs above the ornate marble fireplace, others are seen in the window recess. A large barley-twist reading table or desk stands near the window. Poltalloch House is traditionally the seat of the Malcolm family. In the late 19th century it was occupied by Lord Malcolm of Poltalloch, who was elevated to the peerage in 1896. The house was partly demolished in 1957.
