Scope and Content A panelled room with a decorated plasterwork ceiling, high wall mirrors in ornate frames, several bookcases and an ornate marble fireplace. The furniture includes kneehole desks, with lamps and portraits, sofas and chairs, a chaise longue and a piano. A number of oriental objects are noted amongst the ornamentation. A camera and the photographer are visible in the far mirror. The month of May is showing on the desk calendar. Poltalloch House is traditionally the seat of the Malcolm family. In the late 19th century it was occupied by Lord Malcolm of Poltalloch, who was elevated to the peerage in 1896. The house was partly demolished in 1957.
