Scope and Content View along a road running beside a walled riverbank. There is a bus passing some industrial buildings on the left bank. Mill workers' cottages back onto the water. The right bank is wooded. The lade and dam date from the early 19th century. The first cotton mill was built by the Buchanan Brothers in 1785, one of whom had been apprenticed to Sir Richard Arkwright. See Moray S Mackay "Doune historical notes", 1984, pp45-46.
