Scope and Content A tall castle, partly covered by creeper, with turrets and dormer windows is set in parkland of mown grass with specimen trees. There is a small group of low outbuildings connected to the castle on the left. The near corner of the castle has crenellations and a chimney. The castle, built for the Stewarts, dates from the 1560s with additions in 1693 and 1893 when most of the turrets and dormers were added. Nearby at Pitcairn the church of St Mary has a 17th century painted timber ceiling.
